An authoring tool and playing tools based on AXMEDIS model (presentation layer with SMIL, HTML, Flash, MPEG-4- and including any kind of digital resources), licensing, protection, packaging, workflow, playing, etc. AXMEDIS players for: MS Windows, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple MAC, Linux, Windows Mobile 5/6, and Java mobiles. They can be fully customized in terms of GUI and functionalities.
The AXMEDIS Editor/Authoring can be used for the manual production, authoring, editing and/or inspection of AXMEDIS MPEG-21 cross media content/objects. It is the most complete MPEG-21 Authoring Tool on the market.
These tools are now available for free for research and no-profit institutions.
The AXMEDIS MPEG-21 content model can be used as a descriptor and/or as a package for content and for distribution of more complex elements such as NewsML, MXF, SCORM/IMS, ZIP, collections, menus, etc. The AXMEDIS package can be protected and the resourcescan be managed by AXMEDIS DRM model. The package may have nested levels.
It may contain also links to other AXMEDIS objects and direct URL. AXMEDIS may range from simple files with single resources such as video, audio, images, documents, animations, games, etc., to cross media and multimedia content including: HTML, SMIL, MPEG-4, FLASH, etc., as presentation layer, to large packages of Gbytes with thousands of files as well as entire DVDs. The production of AXMEDIS content can be automated by using AXCP tools.
AXMEDIS players are interoperable, which means they can perform the rendering of the same AXMEDIS objects on different players and operating systems:
- PC MS Windows players, capable to execute SMIL, HTML, MPEG-4, video, audio, documents, images, etc., and JavaScript. PC player may provide different skins. Most of the AXMEDIS players can be customized in terms of GUI and functionalities;
- WEB player: ActiveX for IE, plugin for Mozilla; to integrate the AXMEDIS player into WEB pages and other applications, for example .NET based; See the CrossMedia Finder of AXMEDIS as example (see http://xmf.axmedis.org );
- PDA Windows Mobile 5 and 6 player, supporting: SMIL, HTML, MPEG-4, video, audio, documents, images, etc.;
- STB/PVR player based on (i) Linux, supporting audio visual, SMIL and HTML and on (ii) Kreatel STB;
- Pure java player for mobiles, supporting SMIL, images and audio visual for all mobile phones supporting MMAPI.
